Benefits
There are several benefits to using tight-tolerance blanks before final machining. Typically our customers will achieve two or more of the following benefits on any given job. Those shops will:
End Prep-Time
- Eliminate your time spent squaring up material prior to final machining
- Eliminate awkward clamping due to oversized stock
- Eliminate the clamp changes prior to machining
Minimize Setup Time
- Eliminate or reduce the number of tool offsets
- Load, lock and go! Give your operator the freedom of knowing he can walk away after loading parts.
Increase Throughput
- Without prep-time or setup-time, cycle times are reduced
- Frees operators to run multiple jobs at once
- Allows pallet pools to run at night, lights out, without worry of starting stock dimensions
- Eliminate the second setup of parts that have machining done on one side only
Improve Quality
- Eliminate end mill taper
- Parts start out parallel, square and flat eliminating the need to achieve this on a CNC mill
Cut Costs
- Cut labor and machining cycle time, typically costing much more than the savings from prepping raw material in-house
- Reduce per part costs as much as 15% or more
- Cut labor costs by eliminating or reducing the time operators spend adjusting setups and fixture offsets
